Legacy – Pass information to selected people

Premise: John Brown has a portfolio of Cryptocurrencies and other investments. He wishes to leave some of those as inheritance to his son Blake and some others to his daughter Joanne. However, he only wants Blake and Joanne to access this information in the future, not now.

How-To: All John needs to do is store information about his investments in his Profile, mark all related entries as Legacy ON and “Share” them to Blake and Joanne.

If John’s investment portfolio is large, he is better off breaking down the records in groups (Tags) for easier management and more flexibility. For example, he may Tag some Records with “Cryptocurrencies”, and others with “Stocks”.

For each separate investment, for example Bitcoin, John would create a separate Record as in Suppl#17. He can use the Record’s Description field to type out all necessary information required to access the cryptocurrency. This could include URLs, login information and passwords, procedures, etc. In short, John needs to provide enough information on the Record so that anyone with no further experience in Bitcoin would be able to access John’s Bitcoin account and acquire his related investment assets or transfer them into their own accounts.

If any PDF documents are required (i.e., signed legal documents or Affidavits), John can upload them to this Record or in a separate Record using the same Tag.

Once all related Records have been uploaded, John needs to decide how to share access to Blake and Joanne. There are multiple ways to achieve that.

Method 1, Direct Sharing: John may choose to share access individually on each Record separately. He would display all related Records using the Filters at the top of Suppl#12 (i.e., by Tag “Cryptocurrencies”), then change each Record’s status to “Share” and assign either Blake or Joanne under “Share Access” as per Suppl#14, with no contributor rights.

Method 2: Use Tags: Say John wants to leave all Cryptocurrencies to Blake and all Stocks to Joanne. If all related Records are already tagged either “Cryptocurrencies” or “Stocks”, John can simply share Tag “Cryptocurrencies” with Blake and Tag “Stocks” with Joanne, as in Suppl#27.

In all cases here, Blake and Joanne will not have access to John’s investment records until John’s System-wide setting “Legacy” turns to ON state. Exactly how John’s system-wide “Legacy” is ultimately turned ON, is a matter of a future update. At this phase, we can test the system by manually turning on Legacy at the user level, as in the Black Box in Suppl#7, “Enable Legacy NOW!”.

In any event, once the Legacy time has arrived (when John’s system-wide Legacy settings is changed to ON), Blake and Joanne will be able to login at #1 and access their father’s profile from their respective Dashboards as shown at the bottom of Suppl#9. From there, they can see a full list of records their father shared with each of them, as in Suppl#20, including confidential access information about the investments he wanted them to have.
