A Whistleblower’s Legacy
Premise: Victoria possesses substantial, confidential, and incriminating evidence against State officials. Becoming a whistleblower at present time comes with significant risks for her, therefore she decides to share this information with the world only in the future, as part of her legacy.
How-To: Victoria creates records for the confidential information using Suppl#17 and marks them “Public”. She ensures that all Records have their “Legacy” flag to the ON state. This prevents those Records from becoming available to the Public unless her system-wide Legacy is turned ON.
She can quickly make changes to her records using the List view of Suppl#14, by toggling the Legacy sliders ON and changing Records’ status to “Public”. She can also make changes in bulk using the Bulk Operations of Advanced Search Results.
Note: The subject of when and how a User’s System-wide Legacy setting is turned ON, and how the public in fact views someone’s Legacy information, is part of Development Phase 2. For now (for testing purposes) the User’s Wide Legacy setting can be turned ON or OFF using the black box on Suppl#7.
Variation: Grant access to only some legacy records, but now.
Premise: Victoria has decided to share immediately some of the confidential information with her lawyer Jackson. The information she wishes to share is related to Greece. Documents related to Greece in Victoria’s database of Records are already tagged with Tag “Greece Confidential”. Since the records in question are already marked as Legacy ON, and her Wide Legacy setting is still OFF, Victoria is having a hard time sharing only those records with Jackson at the present time.
How-To: All Victoria needs to do is edit tag “Greece Confidential”, change its status from Public to “Shared”, and assign Shared access to Jackson with “Share NOW” set to ON.
It is important to mention here that this action would revoke future access to the public for Records with Tag “Greece Confidential”, because their status has changed from “Public” to “Shared”. Currently, there is no way to by-pass this limitation because each Record or Tag can only have one status. Either Private, or Shared or Public.
Variation: Grant access to Records now, selectively
Premise: Victoria wants to give access to her lawyer only on SOME Records tagged with “Greece confidential” (rather than on ALL those records)
How-To: She pulls Advanced Search, in Suppl#37, and searches for Tag: “Greece Confidential”. Results appear in Suppl#39. Victoria removes from the results list those Records she does not want to share and clicks on “ADD Shared Access” under “BULK OPERATIONS” to reach Suppl#41. She simply adds her lawyer’s Contact in the list, checks-off “Contributor” and clicks on the checkmark.
